I understand that they cut it for pacing and I agree with the choice but I love that in this scene Tony’s first reaction was to pick up a gun and fight and not just run.
As remarkably badass as this is (and holy crap, it is badass), it would’ve drastically altered his character. He’s visibly scared when he gets attacked, and the first thing he does in the final cut of the film is pull his phone out. Constantly relying on his own tech. That’s Tony Stark.
In fact, he honestly doesn’t even believe he can fight or even survive until Yensin convinces him. So, by removing Tony Stark being a selfless hero (which wouldn’t have made sense yet, since he is still a self-centered jerk at this point in the film), Tony becomes a more realistic character and Yensin becomes Tony’s inspiration.
…in the meantime, let’s all appreciate Robert Downey Jr. in a sweet suit shooting terrorists with a machine gun.
